Mark A. Constas, Ph.D.

Mark Constas is an Associate Professor of research methodology and program evaluation in the Department of Education at Cornell University. Before joining the Department, he was a Program Director and Senior Associate in the U.S. Department of Education. At an earlier point in his career, he was on the faculty of Education at the University of Hong Kong where he served as Deputy Head of Department. His research has focused on the development of designs that make use of qualitative and quantitative data. The technical aspects of his research are supported by investigations into the historical and epistemological foundations of education research. His writing has appeared in various academic journals including, Educational Researcher, the American Educational Research Journal, and Teachers College Record. In addition to his work in research methodology, Dr. Constas is also interested in examining the connection between research and practice and he has just completed an edited volume (with Robert Sternberg) titled Translating Theory and Research into Educational Practice: Developments in Content Domains, Large-Scale Reform, and Intellectual Capacity (Lawrence Erlbaum Publisher). He received his Ph.D. in educational psychology from Cornell University and holds a Bachelors of Science degree in psychology from Northeastern University.
