New events at SREE Spring Conference March 11-14, 2020

SREE is pleased to be announce newly added events at the upcoming SREE meeting:

Career Forum with AIR and WestEd, Thursday, March 12, 11:30 AM-12:30 PM. The forum is an opportunity for students and individuals on the job market to learn about what it is like to work at these organizations as well as current and future opportunities.

Evidence to Insights Workshop, March 14, 9 AM – 12:15 PM. This two-part workshop is complementary for all conference registrants.  During the two part workshop, attendees will discuss how existing evidence can be leveraged to determine whether programs and practices are having a meaningful effect.  During part 1 of the workshop, attendees will be introduced to a free, online platform, the Evidence to Insights Coach, which can help them generate strong evidence at the local level.  During part two, attendees will dive deeper into local research, and the workshop facilitators will helps users establish expectations for the minimum meaningful amount of change, and level of certainty in that change, as part of local evaluations. The workshop will highlight how this emphasizes practical changes that align with key decisions being made in the school or district context. Detailed information on the workshop is available on the SREE website.  

Professional Development Sessions, Thursday, March 13, 12:30-1:45.  The purpose of the professional development sessions is to provide attendees a chance to explore a topic relevant to their work and careers beyond learning about research.  SREE is offering four sessions during this time block:

    • Democratizing Evidence in Education: The Search for Balance between Inclusivity and Expertise
    • Meeting the Requirements of Funders Around Open Science: Open Resources and Processes for Researchers
    • Evidence for Federal Agencies: Assessing the Evidence Act at the One-Year Mark
    • The SREE Summer Fellowship

Researchers of Color (ROC) Organizational Meeting and Breakfast, Thursday, March 12, 7 AM – 8 AM. Attendees will have the opportunity to help shape ROC and the activities/supports it will offer, as well as network with other SREE attendees. The effort is being led by Lashawn Richburg-Hayes, Insight Policy Research, Wendy Castillo, The Research Alliance for New York City Schools, Sarah Peko-Spicer, Northwestern University, and Heather McCambly, Northwestern University. The breakfast is being sponsored by Mathematica. 

Registration is ongoing for the conference, with special rates available to government and school district employees as well as students.  Don't miss this annual event!
